A new years gratitude jar

We will be coming upon a brand new year and a very simple idea to help us bring more gratitude (and more happiness) into our lives for the new year. We spend so much of our lives calculating how much we have, how much we want or how much we don’t have.

Gratitude is what makes the glass half full. It reminds you that you have enough and that you ARE enough. I have a coworker who just started a project of decorating a “Gratitude Jar”. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a cute little jar with a ribbon on it, she would write down the things she was grateful for on small pieces of paper and put them in her jar. She has said that it just changed her whole outlook on life. Her outlook on life has shifted and she is grateful for everything she has, no matter how big or little they are. She appreciates the food that she has, the time she has and the people in her life. Appreciating yourself for strengths AND weaknesses allows you to find a sense of belonging and contentment. When she has a bad day (as we all have), a quick glance at the gratitude jar reminds you that life is full of awesome things to be grateful for and that you can overcome anything! Take time to appreciate the moments of joy and cherish your life entirely!

The ingredients for making a gratitude jar are very simple:

  • A jar or box
  • Ribbon for decoration
  • Some paper for writing the notes on
  • Pen
  • Bring your gratitude in full
